Introduction

As part of the Structural Timber Education programs (STEP), two books on “Timber Engineering” were published between the years 1993 and 1995 by 50 authors from 14 European countries.

I was an author and one of the eight members of the review-group. 13 years later I started to “transform” the Computer Aided Design (CAD)-drawings of the STEP-project with colored pens. In March 2021 I transformed the last of the 579 sheets.

What was my motivation?

To leave the requirement of the exactness and the effectiveness of the engineering thought behind me and to dip into arbitrary fantasies. Without the technical drawings in front of my eyes the whole project wouldn’t have been possible.

Einleitung

Zwischen 1993 und 1995 wurden die zwei Bände Timber Engineering (Holzbau) im Rahmen des Structural Timber Education Programms (STEP) von etwa 50 Autoren aus 14 europäischen Ländern verfasst.

Ich war als Autor und als Mitglied in der Review-Group mit dabei. 13 Jahre später begann ich damit, die CAD-Zeichnungen des STEP-Projekts mittels Farbstiften zu “transformieren”. Im März 2021 war ich mit den 579 Blättern im DIN A4-Format fertig.

Was war meine Motivation?

Das Bedürfnis, die Genauigkeit und Effektivität der Ingenieursdenke hinter mir zu lassen und in beliebige Fantasien einzutauchen. Ohne die technischen Zeichnungen vor Augen wäre das nie möglich gewesen.
